Money you're owed
Find the money that already has your name on it.
Forgotten deposits, uncashed checks, settlement payouts and refunds you never chased. Here's where to look, and how to claim it for free.
Step by step
How to do it yourself
- 01
Search unclaimed property in every state you've lived in
States hold money from old bank accounts, uncashed checks, deposits and insurance payouts until the owner claims it. Search MissingMoney.com, which covers most states, and your state's own unclaimed property site. Claiming from the state is free.
- 02
Check class action settlements
If a company you've used settled a class action, you may be able to file a claim. Each settlement's official website explains who qualifies and the deadline. Only file for settlements you actually qualify for, since claim forms usually ask you to confirm that under penalty of perjury.
- 03
Get refunds for cancelled or changed flights
If a US airline cancels or significantly changes your flight and you choose not to travel, you're generally entitled to a refund to your original payment method, not just a credit. The same goes for paid extras you didn't get, like wifi or a seat upgrade.
- 04
Look for price drops after you buy
Some airlines give you a credit if the fare drops on a ticket that allows changes, and some retailers adjust prices within a set window. A quick check of the policy can be worth it.
- 05
Never pay upfront to claim
You don't need to pay anyone to claim unclaimed property or file a settlement claim. Be wary of services that ask for a fee before you get paid.

FAQ
Common questions.
Is unclaimed money real?
Yes. Every US state runs an unclaimed property program that holds money until the owner claims it. Searching and claiming through the official state site is free.
How do I know if I qualify for a class action settlement?
Each settlement defines who's included, usually based on what you bought or used and when. Read the eligibility section on the official settlement website before filing a claim.
Can I get compensation for a delayed flight in the US?
US airlines aren't required to pay cash compensation for delays. But if your flight is cancelled or significantly delayed or changed and you choose not to fly, you're generally entitled to a refund.
